Patricia C. Brumback, 61, of Indianapolis, IN passed away at home on September 9, 2014. She was born in Speedway, IN on June 9, 1953 to the late John and Juanita Cartwright. She lived the majority of her life in Indianapolis, but she and her husband Mark also lived in the Tampa Bay, FL area from 2006 to 2011.
Patty graduated from Indianapolis Pike High School in 1971, remaining close to many of her classmates in the following years. She served on many reunion organizing committees. Patty attended Ball State University in Muncie, IN and majored in Horticulture. That began her lifelong love of flowers, plants, and gardening. She was the go-to person for horticulture advice for many people.
Patty spent 15 years working as a commercial loan specialist at Indiana National Bank, which later became NBD Bank. She also worked for two mortgage firms in Indianapolis.
Patty was a true lover of nature, especially everything aquatic. Her dad taught her to water ski when she was just 6-years-old, and it instilled in her a lifelong love of water. She was an avid camper, canoeist and boater. She was an Advanced Certified scuba diver and performed dives in many exotic locations around the world.
Patty loved to travel and experience different cultures. Her interest in other cultures was evident by her offering her home and guidance to young international students who traveled to the United States for educational studies. For many years, Patty shared her home and hosted students from Brazil, Japan, Mexico, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Thailand, Venezuela, and more. Patty gave those students educational and cultural guidance. Every student Patty hosted came to deeply care for her. Most kept in contact with her after they returned to their countries.
Patty was an extremely loyal friend to many people and had many lifelong friendships. She was a warm, friendly and outgoing person who never met anyone who didn’t instantly like her. That is a lasting testament to the person she was. Cultivating and maintaining friendships was very important to her.
Patty is survived by her husband Mark, her son, John Casselman, and her sister Carolyn D. Binninger. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law Robert Binninger.
